Brick Lane Challah

Reasons why I love Brick Lane:

-the best challah bread in London for £1 at the famous Bagel Bake (OPEN 24/7)!-all the Japanese tourists taking pictures of people while we are taking pictures of them
-fresh food stands
-vintage shops
-small independent stores
-the selection of hip clothing a person decides to wear
-drinking/eating on the curbs culture

Henri was a friend of mine...

Henri was the first photographer I worked with that looks beyond the face of who he's shooting...
You can connect to his subject through his photos.

Shell, Be Mine...

Shells, extraordinary in shape, structure, and purpose
It protects and shields the tender
You are not confined, instead you are safe.

In a city of many unknown, it is much like a vast ocean
There's much you can't predict. Traitors and enemies come in all forms.
One must find a solid ground.

The recession was an event caused by many to hurt the unprotected.
We felt the need to be on guard.
To be wary of what we do and buy.

You appreciate more than you did before
Shielding yourself with care
But still taking control
Much like you would in a gently encased shell....

Galvin La Chapelle - Spitafields

If there is one French resaurant in London that I adore, it has to be Galvins. Each Galvins presents you with a variety of atmosphere and view. Having already tried the convenient 5-min walk to Galvin Bistrot de Luxe and admiring the amazing view of London from Galvin Windows; I knew that the next one would continue to impress me.
Galvin La Chapelle at Spitalfields.

Just look at the refurbishment they've completed while retaining some details of the area leaving us to feel the mood of the surrounding area. I had a quiet Sundat brunch worth the travel to.

It began with a squiggly line.

It seemed so long ago when I first made that scribble.
The scribbles get easier as I loosen my fingers then my hands and wrists.
With practice the scribbles become rhythmic lines.
Soon I'm creating with those simples lines.

A second look, they are no longer interesting.
The scribbles seem to scramble.
Once rhythmic lines are either too flat or sharp.
It's time to give those scribbles and lines companionship.

Must be those Urban Blues...

The city, not always a happy place.
She can keep running from the shadows,
but never can she ever hide.

Try to stay ahead but time always wins.

Today ends with the orange sky,
hopeful that tomorrow brings some blue.

The Traveler - 20kg luggage allowance

The city woman dominates the room.
Her shoes carry her high with optimism.
There's more behind that face at office meetings...
... in conversations over coffee.
... out having a drink.
She's a thinker. Traveler.
Her outfits planned, updated through travels.

Yes, it always fits in a luggage under 20kg.

(The mood board compiling bit was and is the most difficult. Can't seem to improve after each attempt. Should step away from it for a while.)

A few 'marks' of 2009, 'memo' blogging of 2010

First official blog post:
It's not as easy as it is to read others' blogs.
However, there are a list of objectives I'd like to achieve through the use of my blog 'Marks and Memos'.
Besides having this act as a platform to display the progress of my academic and personal work, it will also be used to share observations - 'marks' people make consciously and unconsciously on the canvas of our world.

These observations include:
-compositions within a frame from a selected point of view
-works of artists that inspire me
-colour schemes
-shape, scale, and textures of garments/objects
-full look of outfits and details (globalization v. culture/personalization)

Alongside the 'marks' will be accompanied with 'memos' (short and sweet) to remind me of what makes it worth noting.

********************************************************************************

A year has passed.

Looking back at previous marks made on blank sheets bring about giggles and sighs.

The passion and naive compositions of that time not too long ago.

My Illustration Project based on Derek Lam's Fall 2009 Collection:
-predict possible mood board
-create a possible title for collection
-illustrate fabric of garments
-attempt flat constructions

...Now all I see are the changes I'd like to make.
